Bengkung Belly Binding, why you might want to add it to your postpartum care plan.
In many cultures postpartum is a time to be cared for and nourished by family as you heal and rest. Belly binding is an excellent way to slow down and be more deliberate in your recovery. The binding helps your body return to its pre-pregnancy shape. It can also help with posture by helping prevent breastfeeding/pumping slouching. There is also the emotional benefits, when the empty womb is bound it offers a feeling of comfort and stability.
Binding starts at your pubic bone and is wrapped tightly around your hips all the way up your stomach to your sternum. This complete and continuous support is often lacking in most commercial postpartum binders. It can be worn up to 12 hours a day and is most beneficial in early postpartum. Women with cesarean births or hernias can still participate in belly binding with a few modifications and/or exceptions.
As a trained belly binder I come to your home and provide the first few binding sessions. I begin by applying a warming paste or essential oils to your abdomen (always disclose allergies and sensitivities), while binding I make sure it is snug and comfortable throughout. I will also instruct your partner or support person in binding so they can continue to bind you in the days following my visit.
It is such an honor supporting women in their birth and postpartum journey. As a doula and placenta encapsulation specialist I am excited to offer this additional service as an add on or stand alone service.
